Excellent event by Juniper networks (Hellas) and SmartAxis

In local events on June 27, 2008 at 1:54 pm

I was invited to an event, yesterday, organized by Juniper networks in association with SmartAxis.

The event was very well organized and a number of issues were addressed, regarding the different communications stakeholders, and the role of the network operator in the years to come (something similar to what I was talking about in Qatar, as well as some previous posts).

One particular issue, was what value addition the network could provide, aside from being say a bit pipe. For example, it was mentioned that some information (traffic and session paterns, adaptive habits, routing quality of service) that only the network knows, could be of value (and may thus perhaps have a sale price) to the peer systems that are accessing the network (in addition to SLA based agreements for QoS/layer).

Something perhaps similar to the information that is obtained (I don’t say it is communicated, but it is obtained) on the traffic patterns, habits, links and usage patterns, tastes etc.. of some social networking sites, but on the layer 1, and 2 levels which only the network knows about.

It should be of note that a number of security technologies, are already using this network information to provide interesting information both to peers, and to management systems.

The presentations continued with amongst other things some ethernet scenarios as well as a detailed presentations of the JUNIPER workhorses and related state of the art technologies.

Coffee as well as food and beverage was served.
